The first Quilt & Craft Spectacular was presented in 2002, initiated by the industrious wives of then current Rotarians, to raise funds for charities regionally. Through their hard work, an estimated 85 quilts were hung, there were workshops, demonstrations and a number of market traders. There was no sponsorship – their worst fears were that they would not able to meet expenses…. but an amazing $9000 profit resulted! The event was deemed a success – and a lot of fun – so plans to continue, biennially, were formed.

Over the years, various Rotarians and their wives have added to it's development – many hundreds of hours spent researching, sourcing, and in those days, on the phone, writing, posting and licking stamps, resulted in continual growth.

Survey results and feedback from the previous event, held 2016, confirmed a record attendance, patrons were attracted by the unprecedented calibre of exhibits and displays. This year, we are set to surpass this benchmark.

Increasingly significant and impactful, the event now attracts thousands of visitors, exhibitors and artisans from throughout South East Queensland – from the Gold Coast through Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast and north to Maryborough, Childers and Hervey Bay – and beyond.

The event raises funds for charities, the major beneficiary being Little Haven Palliative Care.
