The Rotary Club of Gympie pride itself on presenting a prestigious show, with a plethora of traditional and contemporary quilts, patchworks and art quilts, on display throughout the entire upper floor of the Pavilion as well as exceptional craft exhibits. It’s a lovely wander through, with plenty of audible gasps of admiration! At times, enjoy the soft tones of an orchestra or harpist to add to the ambience.

The three conference rooms on this level provide spaces to showcase the works of selected artisans and collective creative crafts.

IN THE CREATIVE PIPELINE FOR 2023 HIGHLIGHTS:

  • renowned South Australian quilter/ designer/ author Michele Hill, Rajah and multi-award winner, will showcase over 20 her collection stunning William Morris-inspired works, entitled “Keeping the Genius of Morris Alive” Meet Michele at the event! Over 45 market stalls offering a huge range of wonderful wares – delight in the inspirational, the innovative, the quirky… you are sure to find a treasure to stimulate your creative juices! There’s fabrics, machines, notions, buttons, threads, wools, kits and patterns and advice galore, along with artisans selling their handcrafted creations: ceramics, rag dolls, candle wicking and all manner of hand stitched goodies. AROUND THE PAVILION – ANCIENT CRAFTS, RARE TRADES EXPO

Over 45 makers gather, keen to inspire with their passion and to pass on their knowledge to preserve the longevity of their craft. It was a weekend filled with non-stop demonstrations, vintage displays, bushcraft shows, artisan markets and lots of good old-fashioned camaraderie. ANTIQUE PAISLEY SHAWLS, 1820 – 1875

From simple to High Victorian

A stunning collection of over 20 rare antique paisley shawls, circa 1820 – 1875. The wearing of shawls was once not just a fashion, but a custom. Different shawls were worn for different occasions – kirking shawls, marriage shawls, mourning shawls, funeral shawls…. and masterpieces of weaving, intricate design and quality. NICKY HARON – A JOURNEY THROUGH THE WORLD OF QUILTING

The dynamic and diverse works of multi-award-winning quilter Nicky Haron will take you on a journey through the world of quilting in all its forms. Nicky loves it all, and works across all genres – the eclectic stash of gorgeous quilts she will bring to the Gympie Rotary Quilt & Craft Spectacular will include Japanese boro, art quilts, hand and wool applique, machine and hand piecing. Some quilts will feature recycled fabrics, a particular interest of Nicky’s. She also enjoys embroidery and toy making and will bring examples of these to complement the quilt display. An expo honouring the incredible artisans and makers of age-old workshop trades, rare field and household crafts, with a view to preserving these skills before they are lost to time and modern technology.

Visitors enjoyed demonstrations and discussions with: Spoonsmiths; an amazing collection of pen making, pyrography, scrollsawing and more from Woodworkers; plus Luthers, Tatting, Lacemaking, Leatherwork, Papermaker, Mosaics, Gilders, Weavers, Ceramics, Tinsmith, Blacksmithing, Shinglesplitting, Silversmithing, Lapidarists, Basketweaving, vintage trade machinery and more! A power-packed show with consummate showman Stan Ceglinski, traditional bushcrafter and musician, is rescheduled to the 2023 event – Stan’s passion to pass down the skills and traditions of yesteryear is addictive.
